The original After Hours Pub was incorporated in August of 1991 by David Simpson, a young college student and entrepreneur, and his business partner Vickie Jenkins. After months of looking for the perfect location and then constructing the site, the first of several After Hours Grand Openings occurred on March 12, 1992. The original location was simply a pub with a small dining area to the side. The menu consisted of many of the same things that are offered today – best burgers around, homemade chicken salad and our famous “Supreme Salad”. After several years at this location, they decided they needed a larger location so that they could offer a broader menu as well as a full beverage selection.
They located the perfect site on Purfoy Road that offered great parking, easy access, and high visibility. David designed the restaurant and pub so that there were two separate facilities within the same building. One side housed the Springs Café and the other side was the After Hours Pub. The second After Hours Grand Opening was held at that location the first week of December 1997. That arrangement worked beautifully to accommodate a full service restaurant that was quiet and relaxing, but by going out the front door and down the sidewalk a few feet, you could enjoy your favorite cold beverage, darts, pool and entertainment. After many wonderful years at this site, Vickie wanted to get out of the restaurant business and spend more time with her family and friends. They sold the building, land and restaurant and officially closed in October of 2006.
David found another job in food service, working as a manager at a restaurant in North Raleigh; however, he never gave up his dream of reopening After Hours. Over the years, he would talk about reopening and look for locations, but until the latter part of 2011, he could not find the location that he felt was suitable for After Hours. He negotiated with the Kroger Shopping Center and after months of construction and hard labor, he reopened After Hours Pub almost exactly 20 years after the original After Hours. On March 15, 2012, he had his dream back! And with that dream came the inevitable partnership with Vickie again. SO WELCOME BACK TO AFTER HOURS – the pub where friends have hung out and enjoyed the food, fun and entertainment for 20 years.
